  • In November of 2015 I read an exposé in Canadian newspaper, The Globe and Mail called "The Abandoned" by Renata D'Aliesio. In it I learned that at least 59 Canadian soldiers had died by suicide since leaving Afghanistan. Since then this staggering statistic has risen. These stories are tragic but avoidable. Canadians such as myself like to think of ourselves as such a peaceful nation. As a result we often sweep important issues, like that of PTSD in our Veteran community, under the rug. I wrote this song to cast a light on this weighty topic. The music video, intertwines visuals of our recording process at Desert Fish Studios with footage of brave North American soldiers in Afghanistan. I hope this song can raise awareness about this alarming epidemic.

  • This under-utilized text comes from our Selichot liturgy. My setting is inspired by Machzor Lev Shalem which includes our matriarchs as well as our patriarchs. Like Dayenu, sung on Passover, Mi She’Anah reminds us of all the revelations God has performed for our ancestors, proving that if the Divine answered them in their times need, so may they answer us.

I am inspired by the breadth of musical possibilities in Reform Judaism. Below are excerpts from services I have led in the past, in a variety of musical styles. Some pieces are offered as listening moments for the congregation. Others are intended for communal participation. My ultimate goal as a cantor is fostering community through prayer .
