Don't Let Me Be Forgotten

In November of 2015 I read an exposé in Canadian newspaper, The Globe and Mail called "The Abandoned" by Renata D'Aliesio. In it I learned that at least 59 Canadian soldiers had died by suicide since leaving Afghanistan. Since then this staggering statistic has risen. These stories are tragic but avoidable. I wrote this song to cast a light on this weighty topic. The music video, intertwines visuals of our recording process at Desert Fish Studios with footage of brave North American soldiers in Afghanistan. I hope this song can raise awareness about this alarming epidemic.

Lyrics:

Poppies don’t grow on hidden graves.

Am I only worth something when I can be brave?

We can’t surrender lest we regret.

We must remember lest we forget.

Chorus:

Don’t let me be forgotten

Don’t let me fall behind

‘Cause there’s no runnin’ from the battle

Raging inside my mind.

These wounds take time, take time to heal

Before my scars can just scab and peel

Don’t ask me why, I do not know

It’s much too soon to say goodbye

But you just stand there and watch me go.

I put you first, now aren’t I worth just a bit of your time?

If you give me your hand I will give you mine.

Chorus
