Grades 9-10: Jews Around the World
I have the pleasure of teaching Religious School to teenagers in Grades 9 and 10 at Temple Shaaray Tefila, alongside Rabbi Jill Rubin. With our course Jews Around the World, we intend to showcase the diversity of the global Jewish community, exposing students to Jewish cultures that they might not have been familiar with previously. Our ultimate goal is to create community amongst learners who spent much of the last two years online.

J-Base: Grades 1-3
Last year I taught a course on Jewish Basics for children in Grades 1 through 3 over Zoom. The purpose of this course was to encourage non-member families who attended High Holiday services to join the congregation. I am proud to say that two students did so. My goal was to allow online learners to get to know each other, as well as the joys and traditions of Judaism. Students were actively engaged for the duration of each class, and soon deep friendships started to form between participants who had never met in person.

A musical journey through the history of Jews in theatre. Jews were behind almost every musical comedy of the 1930s and 40s. This class explores the Jewish themes of Golden Age musical theatre and the allure that musicals had on new Jewish immigrants in America.

Ever wonder why so many of the wold’s most famous comedians are Jewish? Well, me too! This class puts forth possible explanations for this phenomenon, showcases how some of the funniest people in the planet were shaped by their Jewish identities, and examines how humor is inherent to Judaism.
